It has been a very busy fall, and we are only a few days in! I won my first two ribbons at a professional photographers print competition. It was very exciting! I also absolutely love this time of year! The weather is cooler the color is gorgeous! It is a fun time of year to be a photographer! I have some great specials going. Photo of The Day!

Since I have gotten home from NEIPP I have been trying to put to use at least one thing I learned and shown a photo of the day. Some days work out better than others, but whatever I photograph I try to get better than the last. Some days I work on lighting some days it is just composition. Whatever it is I try something new! Today is Easter Sunday, what a wonderful day it was! The sun was out it was warm, and the bunny left some eggs on our front lawn :) Every year the Easter Bunny drops a bunch of colorful plastic eggs on our front lawn. When My daughter wakes up she looks out her window and then knows the bunny has been to her house! It is always an exciting time! Here are a few photos from out Easter celebration. My week at New England Institute for Professional Photographers

Wow where do I begin! I had been putting off going to neipp. There was always an excuse, no money, time away from work, the list goes on. But this year after talking to a fellow photographer I decided this was the year to make it work. Boy am I glad I did!
I am not sure how to find the words for the power and emotion that was put into this week. Our teachers where Doug Box and Randy Kerr two of some of the most wonderful photographers in this country. They where amazing teachers. We learned a lot about photography and how to light our subject properly. But I think there was so much more than that. We where in classes for about 12 hours a day sometimes longer. The time was spent talking, sharing, and making new friendships.
I am really looking forward to trying out some of the new techniques I learned while taking a family portrait. But what stuck with me more than anything was the emotion of what a family portrait can mean. We heard stories about parents, grandparents, who all they have left is that family portrait. How putting aside one afternoon to take the time to have these family portraits taken can mean the world to someone, today or generations to come. I want to end the blog with a quote“Don't put off until tomorrow what can be done today.”

NEIPP

I am feeling pretty excited about being able to go to NEIPP. (New England Institute for Professional Photographers) It is a week long school where I will be completely immersed in photography. We will be learning about shooting on location and a variety of other things pertaining to the business of photography. It is pretty exciting for me as I have never been. I am feeling pretty blessed for this opportunity! I will let you know how it goes when I get back :)

Winter is almost over ....right? March is suppose to be in like a lion out like a lamb. Well we shall see what mother nature has in store for us tomorrow! The beautiful thing about living in New England is if you don't like the weather wait a few hours and it will change!

With the amount of snow we received this winter we made the best of it! We went skiing and had lots of fun in the snow! Because I love all the New England seasons I am offering a great package! Four sessions through out the year made into a beautiful family keepsake. A wonderful professional album with all your favorite photographs. This will be something to treasure for years to come! Summer is at the end and we are trying to get back into the school routine. Before the official start of the school year I took my daughter for one last beach photo shoot. We had gorgeous weather and lots of fun!

I had a great time photographing families at the beach this summer. It is my favorite spot to photograph people. The fall is also a great time to get the family portrait done, and just in time for the holiday card! If you are interested in

We just came home from a fun trip visiting family in RI. It was chilly for the first couple days, and the last night we were there was beautiful. The kids had a great time playing in the yard!

What a great day to be outside! As a New Englander when those first few days of spring arrive I can not help but want to spend every moment outside. It was the perfect day for that. Today we spent the day walking around the North End of Boston, and making an anual stop at Mike's Pastry :) Here are some of my favorite pictures of the sights of the North End.

A Photography Weekend!

I started out my wonderful weekend shooting a wedding here in NH. I was a second shooter for my friend Laura Klein (check out her web site @ http://www.laurakleinphoto.com/ ) It was a lot of fun to work with her and we got a lot of great photographs for her bride.

I spent Sunday at the annual Steve Bedell Outdoor Portrait Lighting Workshop (check out his web site @ http://www.stevebedell.com/ ) This was a wonderful class to improve my technique and better understanding with using natural light. Here are some of the photographs we shot at the all day workshop:

We took these photographs at a beautiful location here in NH. It was a lot of fun to meet other photographers and I learned a great deal from them as well. I am very excited to take the knowledge from this class to my summer sessions! The beach is always a lot of fun, and provides a beautiful back drop for a timeless family portrait.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!!

I enjoyed another beautiful Mother's Day with family. We ate great food, maybe a little to much at times, and had great company, finished off with a trip to the beach. Here are a couple pictures from my mother's day.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day to me is about the love of my family. We had a low key day at home as a family. I shot a couple pictures through out the day, this being my favorite. As I was trying to pose my daughter and get the lighting just right I snapped this one. She was in between wiggling down and back up again. I love the kind of photograph that are not posed. The natural look in a child's eye a hint of a smile the innocence that children poses. Children are only young once, and each age creates new experiences.

New Year

As I write this the last day of 2008, I can not believe another year has come to an end. It has been a wonderful year. I thought in this blog, the last official one of 08, I would share some of my favorite work.

Erika and Jay got married on a cool spring day in Narragansett, RI. It was a beautiful wedding with a very thoughtful beach theme.

Mathew was born in June of this year. Here he is just over a week old. It is always a privilege to photograph a new born.

This is my second year photographing these sisters, always a treat!

Fall Clean up

Well it is that time of year again! Time to break out the rakes and jump in! We had a great time raking up big piles of leaves just for Sami to jump in! I just love the fall because of the fun photo opportunities!

I love to hike in the fall the air is crisp and the views are spectacular! Our last hike was to Diana Bath's. A very easy hike to a beautiful waterfall. The light was perfect to get some great family pictures.

As I was exploring the area I found this heart shaped puddle filled with red maple leaves. This is just one of the many things I love about hiking in NH, you discover so many beautiful treasures!

2008 Kids PMC

The 2008 New Castle, NH Kids PMC (Pan Mass Challenge) was held Sunday September 28. It was a very rainy day, but that did not stop the kids, toddlers to teens, from smiling! The PMC raises money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. It is a wonderful organization helping many families.

This is my second year photographing the event, and I am always amazed at the determination these children have. Some children ride for themselves while others ride for a loved one, everyone there with the same goal to help others. The money raised goes to provide the best research, treatment and care possible for the cancer patients today and in the future.

The toddlers or tykes on trikes ride through an obstacle course, while the older children ride lopes around New Castle Commons. The teenagers go on a 10 to 20 mile course around the seacoast of NH. This event is made possible by the many supporters, volunteers and of course all the children who return year after year and pedal for a cure!

All I saw was smiling faces as the kids rode in the rain, and through the puddles!

Babette and Jon's wedding

Have you ever been to a wedding you can not stop talking about the next morning? The music the people the atmosphere? Babette and Jon had one of those weddings.

It was a beautiful Saturday in northern VT. What made this event so special was it was a family affair. The bride wore her mothers gown, with alterations, that her grandmother had made years ago. The flowers were arranged by Babette's aunt. All the flowers were taken from gardens of families and friends. She walked down the isle to her Grandpa playing the piano, and her father played the harp during the ceremony. Their ride to the reception was a sail boat across the lake.

I was so happy to have been apart of their special day!

Matt Horridge Golf Tournament 2008

The 6th annual golf tournament was held Monday July 21, 2008. It was a beautiful hot and sunny day.

The tournament began in 2003 after Matt had passed away, very young, and very unexpected. In spite of this tragedy his family and friends pull together every year in his memory to play a game he loved so much.

The money raised at the tournament goes to two foundations: University of Rhode Island Foundation: Matthew J. Horridge Memorial Scholarship and: EARTH ltd., Southwick's Zoo: Matthew J. Horridge Memorial.

I have been photographing this event for the past couple years, and it is always a great time! When I take the golf cart around to photograph people I see everyone laughing and having fun. There are some real good golfers out there, and some not so good ones too. Some people who golf every weekend, and some who play just once a year. But none of that seems to matter as everyone is having a good time!

Family Time!

This weekend we went to my Aunts house for a family summer party. It was a beautiful day!

When I was little every family function was held at my grandmothers house. She had a great house! It was an old big New Englander. That had lots of room for all of her grandchildren to run around and play! On the upstairs wall was a picture of her six children. I remember always looking at that picture as the styles had changed a lot and so had my aunt and uncles! Over the past few years when the six of them are together they try to get a picture of all six of them, here is the 2008 one:

During the party my daughter and my cousin spent the time pretending it was raining. In order for it to rainthey had to pull all the leaves off the trees! I think the tree would have been bare if they could have reached them all!

I had lots of fun tonight at the beach with the girls. They enjoyed blowing bubbles and looking for crabs in the tide pools. The beach has to be one of my favorite places to go and take pictures, everyone has fun, and it brings out the kid in everyone!

So here it is already the 7th of July! We are having a great summer. I have spent time photographing weddings, families, and I even spent the day in the mud!
